Two state-of-the-art ISSYS sensors on a penny. The larger sensor is the world's most sensitive capacitive pressure sensor. The smaller sensor is designed to be inserted in a diagnostic catheter. |
Products & Services: Overview At ISSYS, we specialize in designing and developing innovative products based on high performance MEMS. ISSYS' products provide the highest accuracy, fit the smallest sizes, and have unmatched biocompatibility and corrosion resistance. ISSYS is using its deep expertise in MEMS to develop its platform technologies that will support a variety of products as well as provide MEMS fabrication services. ISSYS is targeting a number of specific applications within the medical and scientific industries. In some cases, ISSYS' products will replace current high-performance products with new higher-performance alternatives that provide dramatic cost and size reductions. In many cases, ISSYS' products will provide revolutionary new capabilities to its customers. |
Liquid Density Meters
ISSYS has developed a family of liquid density meters.
FuelSenseTM LD and MassSenseTM LD
ISSYS has developed a small, unique fuel density meter, FuelSenseTM LD, that can satisfy the requirements for the petrochemical and emerging alternative energy fuel market at an affordable price. Customer safety in harsh environments has been the driving force of many of the features of the meter.
The density meter is often used in a by-pass configuration with large diameter processing pipes. This density meter can interface with an external temperature probe to measure the process fluid temperature in the center of the large diameter pipe more accurately.
Remote Data Logging – The meter has an option that enables 2GB of data to be logged and stored internally. A laptop can then be used to extract the data. Six months of density data could be pulled out of a remote meter with this option.
External Temperature & Pressure Sensor – to get best temperature accuracy with respect to the process fluid going through the main line being sampled, an external temperature probe option is available (see photo to the right). An external pressure sensor option is also available if needed.
For applications where the fluid is not flammable the MassSenseTM LD version of the density meter can be used. Meters without the LCD and push buttons are also available.
The FuelSense and MassSense products are CE marked. Download the CE Declaration of Conformity.

Embedded Density Sensor
A smaller density sensor, based on the FC-10 fuel cell concentration sensor design is available. It can be used for nonflammable liquids, ideal for OEM applications where small size is critical. Cable or connector options are available.
Gas Density Meters
FuelSenseTM GD and MassSenseTM GD
ISSYS has developed a small, unique gas density meter, FuelSenseTM GD, that can satisfy the requirements for the energy-related applications and emerging alternative energy fuel market at an affordable price. The density of hydrogen, methane and other flammable gases can be monitored over pressure with the FuelSense gas density meter, Customer safety in harsh environments has been the driving force of many of the features of the meter.
The density meter is often used in a by-pass configuration with large diameter processing pipes. This gas density meter interfaces with an external pressure sensor to compensate for pressure changes.
Remote Data Logging – The meter has an option that enables 2GB of data to be logged and stored internally. A laptop can then be used to extract the data. Six months of density data could be pulled out of a remote meter with this option.
For applications where the gas is not flammable the MassSenseTM version of the density meter can be used. Gas applications include electrical insulation with SF6, gas blending, anesthesia, welding cover gas and various other industrial uses.
Meters without the LCD and push buttons are also available. The FuelSense and MassSense products are CE marked. Download the CE Declaration of Conformity.
Fuel Cell Concentration Sensors
ISSYS fuel cell sensing technology can be used with:
- Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFC)
- Reformed Methanol Fuel Cells
- Ethanol-Water Fuel Cells
- Ethylene Glycol-Water Fuel Cells
DMFC's benefit when they employ a methanol concentration sensor. Fuel cell efficiency is improved when a constant methanol concentration can be maintained over time and temperature.
Applications for this technology include laptop computers, PDA's, digital cameras, fork lifts, power supplies, remote battery chargers, video phones, fuel cell test & calibration equipment and video cameras.
ISSYS' new model FC10, which replaces the older FC6, offers unprecedented accuracy, a wide temperature range of performance (5 to 70ºC), a wide and variable concentration range (0 to 5%, 0 to 10%, 0 to 100% for example). The FC10 is also small enough for embedded applications. See the FC10 Brochure for further detail.

Using a fluid density measurement is an excellent way to measure the methanol to water concentration in a DMFC or methanol-based reformed fuel cell system. ISSYS' sensors can also work with ethanol, ethylene glycol and other fuel cell technologies.

Chemical Concentration Meters Density can be used to measure chemical concentration. The concentration of binary liquid solutions and dissolved solids in a liquid can be measured with this method. The FC-10 sensor can be used for nonflammable liquids where small size is key, while the MassSense can be employed for flammable fluids.
