WEG (Württembergische Elektromotoren GmbH) was founded in 1939, the initial objective being the mass production and sale of sewing machine motors. Through its specialised drive systems, WEG made a decisive contribution to a flourishing industry in the conversion from group drive systems to transmission belts and, subsequently, to individual drive systems.
The WEG policy of producing optimised systems for individual customers proved to be the driving force for rapid expansion. Drive systems for cinema projectors, butchers' machines, oil burners, paper shredders and medical centrifuges followed in quick succession. The in-house development and production of precision engineered transmission systems, going back over thirty years, has added a wide range of further applications.
Today, thanks to over sixty years of experience in practical applications, WEG has become

Electronic Controllers Electronic Controllers are today standard for highly sophisticated drives. The WEG electronic program contains specific electronic controllers for Single-Phase Motors and for all D.C. Motors. All versions are robust controllers for industry purposes to be fitted in the switch cupboard. With regard to the general technical progress in the technology of semiconductors and microchips, our electronic controllers will be permanently improved.
Tachogenerators and Brakes For the solution of many drive problems it is necessary to fit analogue or digital tachogenerators as well as electromagnetic brakes on the motor. These parts fulfill various purposes, such as to enlarge the control range, to show the motor speed, higher dynamic capability by shortening the brake time respectively accelerating the reversing.
