Biomedical Subsystems

Flexible systems specifically designed for biomechanical research

MTS offers modular and scalable spine, hip and knee test subsystems for conducting a wide variety of orthopaedic kinematics studies that are critical for biomechanical research.

With capabilities ranging from simple axial/torsional to six degree-of-freedom (6DOF), these subsystems facilitate testing of both skeletal tissue and orthopaedic constructs, allowing users to measure pure bending and axial loads, as well as a combination of twisting torsion or flexural motions.

The multiaxial Bionix® Knee Subsystem delivers active flexion testing in four degrees of freedom to simulate level walking, descending or ascending stairs, and sitting down or rising from a chair. The Bionix® Femoral Fatigue Subsystem meets ASTM and ISO test criteria for femoral stern components of hip replacements. The Bionix® Spine Subsystem operates with low friction and high stiffness, resulting in high-response and high-performance tests that closely simulate the human spine.
